Mailman Steve ditches junk mail for good

It’s a true and telling story on how a United States Post Man named Steve just can’t keep up with his daily routine, due to the ever increasing volumes of junk mail.

It’s a good story, not about snow and sleet, rather about a mailman’s aging body and back aches which prevented him from delivering junk mail.  Instead, Mailman Steve buries and stashes the third class mail in his garage or buries it in his back yard.  This “crime” would have gone unnoticed for years, except for a call to the USPS by a utility worker which witnessed stacks of mail in his garage. The USPS acted immediately and investigated the crime.  Upon verification of the non delivery of third class mail, the USPS alerted constituents on Mailman Steve’s route of the situation.  Out hundreds of notifications, only one response was returned, congratulating Steve on his outstanding work.

As I have been reporting for months, the junk mail revolution is starting, and will not be stopped.  Marketers have poured billions into promoting green, and junk mail just clutters up the message.  As I have suggested in the past, be sure to ask your customers on their “Do Not Mail” strategies.

  1. Imagine how neat it would be for a Print Salesman to call a client and say,” We should really have a talk about how we can reduce the mail you’re sending. I’ve got a whole bunch of new approaches that other people have been using with lots of success and we’re now in the position to get them to work for you.”

What do you think the chances of that happening? A lot? or slim? or none?
